We totally understand that weddings can get expensive REAL quick, so who needs to overspend on your honeymoon too? We’re here to help you find a way to make that dream honeymoon you’ve always been dying to take, a reality.

1. Sign-up for a honeymoon registry

A honeymoon registry is the perfect solution to making your dream trip a reality. With a honeymoon registry, your friends and family are actually able to help contribute to the honeymoon you’ve always imagined.

2. Book early!

An easy way to cut back the costs of a honeymoon is to BOOK EARLY! You’ll have much more time to explore your options and will be able to find the most affordable (yet magical) honeymoon rooms, transportation, etc.

3. Use a travel concierge

For those of us who need a break from planning, a travel concierge is the way to go. With a travel concierge, all the planning and booking is completely done for you. A travel concierge is also a great money-saver, as everything is already included. This way, you won’t have to worry about all the little extras that would normally add up on your trip.

4. Consider waiting until the off-season

One of the best ways to save money on your honeymoon is to travel to your destination during the off-season, where there will be less crowds and the prices will be less expensive. We would recommend somewhere where the weather is warm year-round– here are our favorites by month 🙂

5. Word of mouth

You’d be surprised how resourceful people can be, and they might even give you some ideas you had never considered before. Also, don’t forget to try out our Referral Program, where you and your friend can EACH get $20 just for letting them know about Wanderable.

We are constantly surrounded by technology, whether it’s our iPhones, iPads, Macbooks, Apple Watches Kindles, Androids, desktops, you get the picture. Use this to your advantage in preparation for your dream honeymoon! Compare and contrast. The world is your oyster!

7. Costco is your new BFF

One great way to save money on your honeymoon is to do your own grocery shopping. Make a fun night out of it and cook your hearts out. You’re guaranteed to have some unforgettable memories.

A Spotlight on Two Rad Short Travel Films

Two travel films that document experiences abroad, from tranquil and meditative to ecstatic and hazy

We imagine some of you might be more visual learners (we know we certainly are). Well, if you’re having trouble grasping the otherworldly appeal of either Bali or Myanmar, we have some eye candy for you. In honor of the Oscars this past weekend, we decided it would be the perfect opportunity to give a shout-out to two epic short travel films that you won’t be able to stop watching.

We are ready to hop on a plane! These ladies make Myanmar look cozy and sumptuous. Good thing AmaWaterways has just launched their Myanmar itinerary, who does an equally golden job of touring through this tiny but powerful country.

Lost in a Dream: Bali

Next, check out the Wanderable couple behind Hiishii Creative who spent months living their dream life in Bali and masterfully documenting their adventures. Their free-wheeling, surf-all-day-dance-all-night philosophy is infectious! And if you’re dreaming about Bali, may we recommend Alexa Private Cruises, who are featured in the video (how can you not love that majestic boat at the 2:05 mark?!).

Video by Hiishii Creative

This is the creme de la creme of cruise getaways, a once in a lifetime experience that will redefine what travel means to you. First of all, boarding the yacht is akin to something out of a Hemingway novel. It is designed down to the last detail, and it feels kind of magical from the moment you step on deck. Oh, and, did we mention, you’ll be the only guests? That’s right, it’s a private yacht for two that includes seafood barbeques, spa therapy and pro diving.

Perhaps these films will ignite your wanderlust. Or if you’re planning to travel, perhaps they’ll spark an idea for documenting your trip. At the very least, peek in the windows of other worlds and learn about these far-off lands.

Oh, and add travel to your to-do list.

Cruise Control: Grow Your Sea Legs with AmaWaterways and Wanderable

Ever considered a river cruise? Well, you should– with Amawaterways and Wanderable.

Swiss Cities: Basel

As lovers of the water, we are very proud to announce our partnership with AmaWaterways, a true revolutionary in the field of river cruising. This sweet, family-owned business specializes in custom ships built to make your voyage truly comfortable and majestic. We went to the trouble of going to Paris & Normandy just for you, Wanderers, so you can peep some pics from our glamorous, cozy, magical trip with Amawaterways, below. It was really hard…but, you know, someone’s gotta do it.

The Wanderable Team (and their boyfriends) in the small town Honeflur, one of the stops along the Seine

River cruises are a great option for all ages of travelers…more seasoned couples who might be enjoying a second honeymoon or renewing of their vows, or young spritely things just venturing out onto the ocean for the first time. With so many different activities and experiences available on the ship, the experience is whatever you desire it to be– the daily tours are top notch (and their are multiple ones each day, depending on your interests) but if you’re into going it alone, grab a bike from the boat and venture out. You won’t be disappointed.

Normandy by Bike:  A must

Did we mention that Amawaterways was an all-inclusive trip? This is a big plus: you don’t have to get nervous that you’re racking up crazy bill.  You can sit back, relax and enjoy every moment. This gives you the freedom to try new things, hang out with new people (your fellow cruise mates will become permanent pen-pals by the last day) while getting a holistic travel experience.

You can sit with us: the cool kids table on the Amalegro

Plus, Amawaterways likes to keep it small: so you’re not getting onto some monster cruise liner.  With only about 200 people on board (including the crew) the personal touch can be seen in everything they do.  The cruise director actually came up to our group on the second night and told us about an off-the-beaten-path, 2 star Michelin restaurant in Caudebec, inside the chef’s house. He offered to make us reservations because he knew we were foodies.  Seriously, you just don’t get service like that every day.

Baguetts

Rudi, the president of Ama, discusses his philosophy: “We love what we do — providing our guests with the best travel experiences possible. In fact, ‘Ama’ is derived from the Latin word for “love.” It is a concept that permeates every aspect of our river cruises, from the design of our ships to the development of our itineraries to the high levels of service we deliver to our guests.”

AmaWaterways is truly a stellar brand, and we are thrilled to announce to you that we’re launching 5 itineraries with them today. They are: Douro, Portugal;  East AfricaProvence & SpainVietnam, Cambodia, & the Mekong and Paris & Normandy.  Plus, the first three couples that registry get some special treats: chocolate and champagne in their room, and a a private champagne reception with the captain before the welcome dinner.

So, Wanderers, even though a river cruise might not necessarily be the fist thing you think about when you think about going to Europe or Africa, we dare you to think differently.  With Amawaterways and Wanderable, it’s all about five-star service, amazing experiences, meeting new people, and exploring a different world.

Check out some more amazing pics from our trip with Amawaterways, and #WanderOn.

Climb & Unwind with WildChina

WildChina Lets You Adventure, But Not Stress About It (score).

Great Wall of China

What is your #1 hangup about going oversees to China? Is it the language? The culture? Or is it the feeling that no matter how much research you do, you’ll end up feeling like a tourist?

Well, our new partner, WildChina, makes China feel less overwhelming: almost all of their tours include an English-speaking guide (so you feel like you’ll fit in) and they go out of their way to make their clients feel at home, and not like they’re in such a foreign place.

To give you an idea of the next-level service that Wild China offers, we picked the brain of Jenny, a fellow wanderer (and our Co-Founder!) who recently toured the country with them (and especially, her tour guide, Jerry):

“Jerry was one of the best tour guides that I’ve ever worked with!  He quickly noticed how Andrew (my boyfriend) is really interested in history and adjusted the daylong tour to dive deeper into various attractions and stories that he knew would be more fun for us. Jerry took us around Beijing for the day – we got to see the Temple of Heaven, Forbidden City, and even do a taichi workshop. Wild China made the entire planning and trip experience really simple.”

forbidden city

Take a look at these three itineraries, and tell us with a straight face that you don’t want to hop on a plane tomorrow.

WILD CHINA: ADVENTURE

Discover China’s unbeaten paths. Enjoy a day trip to the Great Wall, take a 3-day excursion into the heart of Shangri-La, and commemorate your love with a private blessing ceremony by a Tibetan Lama. Do it all with boldness in your step and calmness in your mind, knowing that WildChina has thought of everything.

HaShuan Xi'an

WILD CHINA: REST & RELAXATION

Wild China has curated all the details of this itinerary to provide more than a little R & R for well-worn travelers with dalliances like a private blessing ceremony in the picturesque Yi Village, a guided hike through Lijiang Old Town, and a tour of a tea plantation. With such a prestigious itinerary, you will find the experiences you’ve always been dreaming of to rejuvenate your ability to be in the present.

WILD CHINA: CLASSIC CHINA

Zip through the sky on a helicopter tour from Beijing to to the Great Wall, tour through Beijing’s 798 contemporary art district, and learn how to cook some seriously famous dumplings. Moment to moment, this trip will redefine all of your understanding of China’s strange and beautiful juxtapositions.

Hmmm…we’re not sure our wanderlust has ever been more piqued. Have fun at your own party, while WildChina demystifies the mythical intricacies of Chinese culture and makes sure you catch the highlights of every neighborhood. Actually enjoy your honeymoon.

Navigate New Zealand with Time 2 Go!

Wanderable has teamed up with uber-cool tour guide, Time 2 Go, to bring you curated New Zealand itineraries for your honeymoon. It’s time to navigate New Zealand!

15-DolphinSwim

We’re writing today to illuminate you on one of our (new) absolute favorite places ever. New Zealand can be something of an enigma to Americans– even to us.  We mostly knew of it through its unbelievably prolific music scene – evidenced by our recent travel playlist – and our affliction for the Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit films.

Manawatu

Full disclosure: before we met the Time 2 Go team, we basically only thought of Gandolf when we thought of New Zealand.  But there is SO MUCH more to this place than just Middle Earth. (Don’t believe us? Check out this BuzzFeed post) We’ve worked with this incredible travel specialists to create three customized itineraries for our Wanderable couples that totally capture the heart and soul of New Zealand.  To get you just as excited as we are, there is even a special giveaway for the first couple that starts their NZ registry! So, read on, Wanderers… #itsTime2Go!

im_368_IMG_1404

The first NZ itinerary stops in some of New Zealand’s most lively cities and beautiful towns. In In Queenstown (otherwise known as heaven on earth), you’ll wake up and tour the lakes and mountains in the sun, get photos with your loved one that look like they’re photoshopped, and then cool down just in time for the sunset, where you can soak in the famous Onsen Hot Pools and let your muscles melt!

For the first Wanderable couple that books with Time 2 Go, a dip into these magical hot pools is free! New Zealanders are generous folks.

But whether you crave the adrenaline from the world’s highest cliff jump, the magic of touching an ancient glacier in Glacier Country, or simply the relaxing travel through Marlborough on a coastal pacific train, you will find this itinerary bursting with unforgettable activities throughout New Zealand.

Sail-Fearless-Lake-Taupo_Square.CFpPWQ

The next itinerary by Time 2 Go features a roster of cities from Waikato to Wellington City to the Bay of Plenty and everywhere in between. What you’ll find at each stop is varied (like the level of cuteness of the Hobbits) with activities ranging from a peaceful tour through ethereal and world-famous glowworm caves to a wine and food tour fit for foodies.

On our third itineraryyou’ll find relaxing thermal pools in Hanmer Springs, cage diving with great white sharks off of Stewart Island, or touching thousand-year-old glaciers in South Canterbury. I mean, seriously– there is something for everyone. Feel free to mix and match; the world, well at least New Zealand, is your oyster!

Fiordland

Allow us to conclude our brief gushing with some other lesser-known facts about our new favorite place. The longest place name in the world is Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu, a hill in Hawkes Bay. Pretty cool, right?

So bring it on, winter months. We’ll just be over here, day dreaming about New Zealand, where it’s summertime. Guys…#ItsTime2Go.
